(some of) My Photoshop work

For my "Wall of Worthies" page on my other site, I've been going through the council's photo archives. Some as you can see, are a "little tough to make out." Here's how I fixed it:

Here's exactly how I scanned it into my hard drive:

Not exactly a finished product as you can see. So the first thing I had to do is get rid of that "taily thing." I opened it up in Photoshop, clicked on the Marquee tool and put a marquee around it, then pull down the "Image" drop down box clicked, "crop" (and, of course, Saved it):

Still not exactly legible to the eye. So I again clicked on the "Image" drop down box, went down the list until "adjust" came up, clicked on "adjust" and on the next drop down box went to "brightness and contrast," and clicked on that one. When that box came up I moved the sliding triangles to an acceptable level, clicked "ok," and hit Enter:

At this point I did two steps. First, I removed "the nail hole" above Mr. Duignan's head, removed the name plate, as well as the curves on the sides. As I did above, I used the "crop" function.
Of course, when I cropped the image, it became smaller. To change the size, I went to the "help" drop down box, and chose "Resize image." Since I was using this for my other website, I clicked on "online." I then chose the height and width I wanted, and then clicked, "next." and then "finish." Of course, don't forget to save at every step!

If you're interested, you can see how the finished product looks on my Council's "Wall of Worthies" page.

Please keep in mind I'm not a teacher and I too am learning as I go along. But what I do know, I'm glad to share!
